Accidental Death of an Anarchist (1970/71) is about an episode in Italian history better known as the Years of Lead – a wave of terrorist attacks starting in the late 1960s and which lasted until early 1980s.  This particular comedy by Dario Fo is about events linked to the mysterious death of Giuseppe Pinelli who was arrested after a bomb went off at the National Agrarian Bank (Banca Nazionale dell’ Agricoltura) in Milan in 1969 when more then 80 anarchists were arrested across Italy.  Pinelli was illegally detained for 3 days and 3 nights at a police station until he “fell out” of a 4th floor window.
