A guest performance of the Croatian National Theatre production of Men of Wax by Mate Matišić, directed by Januš Kica, is scheduled for Thursday, 31st May at 8pm.

Men of Wax is a dramatic triptych composed of three independent and stylistically different parts. The main link between them is Victor, a playwright and script writer, a former rock guitarist and a pop-rock star of a country that once existed. The cast includes: Goran Grgić, Ksenija Marinković,  Alma Prica, Bojan Navojec, Ana Begić, Milan Pleština, Ivan Jončić, Slavko Juraga, Luka Dragić, Siniša Popović, Ivan Glowatzky, Silvio Vovk, Kristijan Potočki, Alen Šalinović, Jelena Perčin, Iva Mihalić, Damir Markovina, Vanja Matujec, Katija Zubčić, Barbara Vicković,  Olga Pakalović, Ivana Boban and Dora Lipovčan.

The Polish director Janusz Kica holds a degree in theatre studies from the University of Krakow. After completing his degree in 1981, he emigrated to West Germany. In Cologne he became a student of theatre studies and history of art. The first play he directed in Zagreb was in 1990 at Zagreb Youth Theatre and it became one of many plays he has directed over the years for theatres in Croatia’s capital city. Besides Germany and Croatia, he has also directed productions in Austria (Vienna) and in Slovenia (Celje, Maribor, Nova Gorica, Piran) but mainly at the Slovene National Theatre in Ljubljana. At Zagreb Youth Theatre Kica also directed Locusts by Biljana Srbljanović. He has received numerous awards for his work.

The set for Men of Wax was designed by Studio NUMEN and Ivana Jonke who have also done stage design for YDT productions of Metamorphoses, Hamlet and Einstein’s Dreams.

Under the exchange programme for 2018, a guest performance of the Yugoslav Drama Theatre production of The King of Betajnova by Ivan Cankar, directed by Milan Nešković, is planned for later this year at the Croatian National Theatre.
