REHERARSALS FOR BETRAYAL HAVE STARTED

Rehearsals for the famous Betrayal by Harold Pinter written in 1978 have started in Yugoslav Drama Theatre. The play will be directed by Goran Šušljik as part of his Masters Exam supervised by his Faculty Mentor Slobodan Unkovski. The cast includes Nataša Tapušković, Gordan Kičić, Ljubomir Bandović and Slobodan Tešić. Pinter’s play is translated from English by Vesna Radovanović for the purpose of this production.

The production will be premiered at Bojan Stupica Theatre by the end of November. This will, at the same time, be the first staging of one of Harold Pinter’s plays at YDT.

The plot is defined by a love triangle and represents a meditation on the subject of marital infidelity, hypocrisy, delusions and betrayal. Pinter creates a world in which he glorifies and degrades love at the same time.

Betrayal was first produced by the National Theatre in London in 1978 and directed by Peter Hall who staged this play two more times – in 2003 at the same theatre and in 1980 at the Trafalgar Theatre in New York. After numerous productions around the world, this play was recently premiered at the Barrymore Theatre on Broadway, starring Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz and directed by Mike Nichols.

Writer, actor, poet and a political activist Harold Pinter (1930-2008) wrote 27 theatre plays and 21 films scripts. He is one of the most complex writers that wrote after WWII. Besides numerous acknowledgements, he received a Nobel prize for literature in 2005.
