Mirjana Karanović

Graduated in acting from the Faculty of Dramatic Art in Belgrade. Member of Yugoslav Drama Theatre during the period from 1988 until 2001 when she became dean of the Arts Academy.

Appeared in over fifty different theatre productions both at YDT and other theatres in the region and further afield.

Notable roles in YDT productions: Dog Lady (Barbelo, of Dogs and Children), Gertrude in Hamlet (in two different productions), Zelenićka (Patriots), Zhivka (Cabinet Minister’s Wife). She also appeared in cult productions such as: The Birds, Evdokia (The Power Keg), The Blue Bird, Lyse (L’Illusion Comique), female lead in Nijinsky

Mirjana has also appeared in leading roles in cult television and film productions such as Petriia’s Wreath, Fall of Italy, Life is Beautiful, When Father Was away on Business, On the Road to Katanga,  Time of Miracles, The Meeting Point, The Little One, Better than Escape, Underground, Grbavica, Here and There.

Recipient of Sterijino Pozorje Award, Žanka Stokić Award, a number of international theatre and film awards, six YDT annual awards as well as the Conquering Freedom award awarded by the Maja Maršićević Tasić fund. Currently working as dean and full time professor of acting at the Arts Academy.
